To clarify  my own position - fibreglass sucks.  But I need something for new comers to drill with at the lionsgate practice.  As you say, once I figure they won't drive my blade into the ground, I loan them one of my steel simulators.

This is similar to my own feelings on it.  I believe that fiberglass should never be allowed in tourneys.  I used a fiberglass for about a year and a half, and it doesn't react close enough to a real sword.

On the other hand though handing a newcomer a fiberglass rapier is much better than handing them a dowel.  Even if you ban fiberglass from practices groups will still use fiberglass for a bit for non contact drills because it's gonna take about two years for the branches to replace all of the fiberglass with steel.

I'm in favor of having fiberglass allowed for practices only, and not for tourney, but set a deadline for it.  Say that January 1 2008 all fiberglass swords are banned from practice.  And I think the appendix for them is a good idea.  It wouldn't even need to be in the rules just have a "see supplemental 1: fiberglass blades" and then make the extra rules available.  It would work because the blades wouldn't be allowed at tourney any way.

Thoughts?
