Forward from the Martinez Academy regarding Paddy Crean in Banff Alberta.  Please note, I do believe that Stephen Hand will also be onsite running a week long course on Silver's treatise.

The Paddy Crean International Art of the Sword Workshop will be held from Sunday December 31st through Saturday January 6th, 2007.  The theme of this year’s workshop will be a celebration of the history and development of swordplay and the combat arts. This workshop is designed for Stage Combat Artists, Historical Martial Artists and Martial Artists of all kinds. Instructors from around the world will be teaching a variety of classes during the day in Stage Combat, Western Martial arts, Eastern Martial Arts, Stunt Work, Movement and Dance.

Please join us for a weeklong workshop full of classes, lectures, demonstrations, a New Years Eve celebration and all the fun that goes with meeting such a diverse group of teachers and participants. This event should prove to be of interest to all those involved in western martial arts especially historical fencing. It also offers you the opportunity to find out first hand how they do all those stunts in movies or simply to take other historical fencing classes with other teachers.

We will be there teaching several classes. Of interest to most of you will be a progressive class that will be taught on a daily basis over the course of the workshop on the Spanish school.  Each day’s class will build on the previous class. He will also be teaching an extended class on  Italian Rapier in conjunction with Maestro Jeannette Acosta-Martinez. Maestro Acosta-Martinez will also be teaching 3 classes on French small sword of the 18th century as well some extra classes on historical techniques for self defence on the street with the smallsword.  The schedule is not finalized yet and will be largely determined by the number of participants.

On the online registration form where they ask: How did you hear about this workshop? Please check the Teacher, colleague or professional association box.  On the mail in registration form, fill in Martinez Academy of Arms.

The total workshop fee includes: Tuition, Housing, and Food.  The fee is $1091.80 Cnd (which includes a $30 Cnd processing fee and 6% tax) for shared accommodations.  Single accommodations are $1314.40 Cnd.  To guarantee a space, a deposit of $100 Cnd and the $30 Cnd processing fee is required on registration.  Families and friends are welcome, contact the Banff Centre directly to get prices for their accommodations.

The registration deadline is September 29th, 2006.

Wow that was annoying trying to find more info.

For those who want to know more go to: http://www.iosp.org/index.php/Paddy_Crean_Art_of_the_Sword_Workshop

My question, in case anyone here knows: how do I sign up for a particular class? I found the workshop registration but I want to take the Silver series.

Good question. I have my deposit down, and am looking forward to this too.

Does anyone know where can I find a schedule of what is going on through out the day. It would be nice to plan out the 7 days of swordplay and sign up to the specific workshops in advance

The Silver series, yeah that could be really good...

How are you planning on travelling? Would there be a car/van load of people going up from Vancouver that could maybe swing by the ferry terminal to pick up a walk-on from Victoria?

Honestly, i dont think we are going to have a car. So far it looks like the cheapest option is either a greyhound, or flying and bus from the terminal. I will keep you posted, as a van pool with a bunch of sword fanatics could be pretty awesome.

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy lately.
