I can't remember where this came up (had to be a discussion years ago), but it's just something I needed to get off my mind.

A rapier legal leather offhand glove with the inside palm and fingers stitched over with actual chainmail would be protected against cuts to the inside of the hand, but not thrusts.  The outside of the hand would be target to both.  Would it be considered an offhand parrying device?

Hi,

I'll give my opinion on the matter.  If the MIC is running a scenario with an armored gauntlet(experimental or scenario based), then each fighter must be notified as such to adjust to the new change for this scenario.

If the armoured gauntlet is an approved experiment then the KRM has to agree with the experiment and allow for such to occur.  I believe that marshals should be aware that such an experiment is taking place, so we don't disallow experiments that may occur in our areas.

To my knowledge, a chainmail gauntlet does not allow you to ignore legal attacks to the hand.

The last time I saw someone use a chainmail gauntlet was 12th night, back in seagirt. (might have been plate and chain. It was someone from Avacal.)

There used to be a section in the ABC's that specifically covered the use of armoured gauntlets. It's pretty rare these days.

I believe it was used like an experiment...bring it to the MiC, make sure each opponent knows ahead of time what it does, and agrees to let you use it.

I have a steel gauntlet I have used on occasion - never been a problem with the MIC or fighters but it's always been at small local things and as more of a flash gimmick.  It sounds great when parrying a steel blade   The palm part is leather too so the hand was still vulnerable in that respect.

It's exactly like the one here but with a leather gloveinside with steel plates onthe fingers.

Durn it - how do you insert images directly now?  Anyway here's the link

Howdy, I used to have a guantlet like what you describe. metal plate on the back (my guantlet had articulated lames on the fingers also), and leather on the palm. Whenever I used it, I asked the MiC first, as armour can be used as armour if the TRPs allowed it. The guantlet has since been donated to Avacal's regalia and is now presented to the send place finisher in Avacal's rapier championship to use for the year. I have not seen anyone else use one in a LONG time. some others I've seen were "bridle guantlets" ... as were worn by calvalry in the 100 years war and English Civil war. these would not be used by a duelist outside of extreme situations. I don't see the need for an 'experiment' as there are rules to allow for armour to be used as such. William ps, I think Guillemain currently has the 'iron guantlet' .. maybe he'll be able to post a picture.

Thanks Morgan.  Perhaps you could also share with me the nomenclature for displaying pics.  [img][img/]  doesn't seem to work anymore...

Hey, no problem!  It isn't very hard, but they deffinately made it trickier!

At the bottom of the box you type your messages into, there's two buttons.  "Design" and "HTML."

Click the "HTML" one

It'll show like, the code for the message, basically what you'll want to do on that side of things is type in

IMG src="the address for the picture here"

Youll want to close the above between the Less than and Greater than signs (above the comma and period on the keyboard

Once you've done that, click back over to the "design" side of things, and it should show up in this window.  BAM!

Click submit, and they should show up in the forum.

Guillemin had the iron gauntlet LAST year. This year I believe Dante has it, and since he's not on these forums as far as I know, the chances of a picture being posted are prolly pretty small...

When I get a chance, I'll make what I'm talking about.  We're on the same page, but I think a picture will help out better than a (farmered) description.

Give me a trip to princess auto, finding my "wire" stash, adding a case of beer for sanity reasons, and I'll have some faximile of what I mean.

Hopefully.
