I heard rumblings about moving to a lifetime Authorisation last year. What do you guys think of this idea? How do you think we would manage rusty fighters?

It'd be handy to have, but it'd best be handled with a long poker, possibly hot, and from a distance. |

Greetings,
I would be against a blanket authorization. I feel that there are too many possible problems with blindly authorizing anyone.
Now, having said that, there are several kingdoms that have something similar to what you are asking about. The difference is that there are checks and balances involved; most of the time it is as simple as participation in the authorized activity.

I would also be against a blanket lifelong authorization. That creates an assumption that I'm personally not that confident in. Every 2-3 years just doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
I would be more worried about a lifelong authorization as to me, that would allow someone could stop fighting for say, a couple of years and have no reason to bother to read the rule changes, like, say the allowance of blade grasping, or increased armor requirements, etc.
Maybe they would be perfectly safe to fight, but its just not that hard to get reauthorized. |

And technically (a very big rather vague technically) it is the waiver you are redoing once you are authorized.

I, too, am against "lifetime" authorizations. Retesting every few years isn't hard, and it keeps the general population aware of current rules and allowances. I also believe that people should have to take at least a written test every time they renew their driver's licenses as well, because alot of people obviously forget the rules of the road as soon as their initial drive test is over--but that's another matter, I suppose.

| I will add my support to the "no lifetime authorization" camp. I think there is nothing wrong with a sanity check every now and again. |

How about reauthorizing every time there is a new rules edition to confirm that any changes are understood?

I have no problem with lifetime authorizations. People should be dealt with when they cause a problem, not assumed to be a problem just because they want to play our game. If a fighter doesn't keep up with the rules, and the rules are significantly different, they will be "caught" and should be disciplined appropriately then.
