| July Coronation will be held in the Barony of Wastekeep this year. Yes, folks, that's in the Inland desert, in Eastern WA. So it will be hot (90-95 is the average). We've had hot before (Vulkanfeldt, Shittemwood can be hot in July, Terra Pomaria, etc.) and even though rapier fighters seem to be adept at caring for ourselves in adverse conditions, we will still be taking precautions. I'll be MiC for rapier, so I'm putting this out early for planning purposes. How many folks plan to travel to Wastekeep for July Cor? What kinds of tournaments/scenarios interest you the most? Any and all comments are welcome. |

I'll probably be there, assuming work doesn't get in the way.
I'm mostly interested in 1 on 1 tournaments and pickups.

| Grant & I should be there. We both prefer one on one tournaments & pickups too. While its probably an obvious desire, the larger eric size the better for the open format tourneys (cadet tourneys) to avoid the cramped line-fighting that it often devolves to. |

I'm coming. I'll bring all of Avacal with me if I can. I'll settle for hopefully my men-at-arms at least.
Cadet's Tourneys are a must and I like the occasional double or single elim.

since you asked .... I like double elim and round robins ... and cadet tournies
but with the cadet tourney ... I don't like it where the loser reports, because: the loser is already at a disadvantage of time vs wins, for trying to get back the rounds they missed out on when standing in line to report, and possiblely the loser might 'forget' to report the win of his opponent while standing in line
now that being said ... the cadet tournies where the winner reports fall into similar issues
so what should be done?
well last year I got to play in several cadet tournies that Guido MiC'd and he has a different take on it ... something I have enjoyed and found it to be fair to all parties ... so for those who don't know, I thought I'd share ... since after all the question was asked....
Cadet Tourney Guido Style first round everyone just pairs up and fights - both report round two and for every round after that the following occurs losers to one side, winners to the other losers challenge the winners (that way there is no loser picking) this picking goes very quickly ... especially with Guido on the field watching everyone fights at the same time ... when you finish your fight you both report that round ends with the last fighting pair and the two groups split up again and we repeat format until so many rounds or so much time has passed |

Okay, fighting good! Keep the ideas coming. I've got one or two other ideas that I've "stolen" from other folks, but I'm seeking their permission before I post them. Sir Styrkarr is MIC for the event overall, and I'm working with him to get as much "real eric" time as possible. Looks like early Saturday morning, and then lots of time on Sunday...we're also looking into setting up proper erics away from the "main" eric area, so that we can fight even when the armored fighters are hoarding--I mean, occupying the main field.

"Never Won A Tourney" Tourney. I've gotten in touch with one of the gentles who created the "Never Won a Tourney" tourney, and he's given permission for us to use the format at July Coronation. So here it is! In addition to the "regular" tourneys that we have at crown events, I'd like to slip this one in the mix. My goals in hosting this particular format is dual: (a) it encourage newer fighters to enter the lists, and (b) those fighters might get some notice from more seasoned fighters/contructive criticism that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to get elsewhere. One rule that I will add is that a fighter can only enter this tourney if s/he enters at least one other "regular" tourney at the event! Copied from an email from Axell the Black, one of the "founders" of this tournament: >
"The format is very simple it is a standard double
elimination tournament, To qualify basically you
cannot have won any tournament larger than say a small
shire defendership and only once. We
set that as we allowed people to win our tournament
twice the idea being you win one then you defend your
title once. That is all there really is to it "
What says the rapier community?? |

Dante Machiavelli, Cadet to Albert, runs a tournament similar to that every year @ Quad War.
The Novice division is open to all fighters who have never won a tournament or championship, and have been caded less than a year. Round robin.
The Junior Division is open to all fighters who have never won a tournament or championship, regardless of time in. Double elimination.
And there's an Open Division as well. Single elimination.
It's a great set up, with lots of opportunity for new folks to get ample guidance, and the chance for everyone to fight. A caution though, and I'll be blunt. The Novice Division is often some of the sloppiest fighting I've ever seen, and it requires some great marshals willing to step in repeatedly to work properly. |
