10/23/2007 10:58 AM Alert

I recieved the follow letter from Sir Brand and promised to pass it along.

We are trying to get a straw poll of how many people might be interested in this event.  Please drop me a note with your interest level so we can get a count.

Also if you can think of a particular teacher you would like to see come out for this please let me know.

--------------------

Aquaterra is hosting an event in April of 2008, the 10-13th, called Art of War.  It is to be a War Training intensive experience with Commanders from the Eastern Kingdoms being brought.

The Eastern lands regularly include rapier and armored archers in their Tactic Classes and have specific training for building up their armies by encouraging Spear for Rapiers who wish to cross over upon occasion.

 1) For information see  www.sca-ArtofWar.org for more information.

 2) I have heard that the Rapier Community is interested in having a "Sport of Kings" type event for Rapier.  The way I have the event planned out, all fighters will be working shoulder to shoulder from the morning to the afternoon, learning movements, maneuvers, tactics, skills of the HardSuit world, like Spear and Polearm.  Then, I imagined the Rapiers going off to their fields and working in groups, doing Ditch Battles, Taverns, etc.  At present, we were hoping for ~50 Rapier Fighters, sleeping and eating with the rest of the group in our Dining Hall (we provide all the basic foods, prepared for us by a kitchen staff)

IF there is interest in this idea, and IF a larger community wanted to take part, we have the possibility (for a while, anyway, until it gets rented away from us) of renting the adjoining campground (a 10 minute quick walk away).  The two camps, each, hold ~ 400 people in their great halls.  Then they have some cabins and frame tents available as well. (We do not recommend people bringing pavilions to this event. It's in April, in An Tir.  Both sites have Hot Showers, btw;-)

IF the Rapiers were to descend in huge torrents to enjoy the opportunity to train together with the HardSuits AND have intensive one on one Sport of Kings type of classes in Rapier, plus having time with our Eastern Commander Generals (who will have experience training Rapiers as a group force) dedicated to them, we could do both!  IF hundreds wanted to come and play, it would be beyond our ability to incorporate them into our campground (due to the sheer force of numbers).  BUT, we could get the other campground, you all could stay and eat there, either providing your own individual foods, or letting us bulk buy together and finding some amongst you with food handler permits and familiarity with a commercial kitchen, which both sites have... see the LINKS page on the Website (www.sca-ArtOfWar.org) it has pictures of the two camps and their kitchens :-)
