On July 23rd, Academie Duello is going to run a very different kind of workshop. It is a class for historical fencers and western martial arts enthusiasts, but we aren't going to talk about manuals, or interpretations, or mindset.
We're going to talk athletic performance, specifically with the rapier. We're going to make you sweat and work harder that you've ever imagined you could. We're going to work every aspect of your performance game. Raw strength. Speed. Reaction time. Explosiveness. Endurance. Calesthenics and plyometrics til you can't walk anymore.
And when you are done with that, you're going to pick up your rapier and really get to work...
Workshop is four hours long, starting at noon sharp. Please arrive at least a hour early to prepare yourself. Be fed and well rested, bring water and fight gear, warmup and stretch before the scheduled start time.
This program is reccomended only for experienced and trained athletes, and the class will be geared for them. That said, we know some of you weekend warriors will want to try it out as well. We won't say no, but we will expect you to pace yourself, not break yourself. Leave your excuses at home, and just take a break when you need one. Everyone should walk away with some great new ideas to incorporate into your own training programs.
And after, there is a great brew-pub a block away to replace all that sweat...

The workshop is the weekend after next, and we are filling up fast! i'd reccomend registering soon.
We've been asked by a lot of people what they can expect from the workshop, so here's a little more information:
The workshop will be split into a workout section, a fighting section and a performance review section.
The workout session will be tough, but it will presented as a "sampler pack" of exericises. Every student should take at least a taste of each exercise, and try not to fill up. We want you to try some new exercises that you may not have done before, and perhaps add them to your routine.
The fighting section will be just that non-stop fighting, at a variety of paces, controlled by the intructors.
The review section will consist of small-group and private review and critique of fighting performance and concrete suggestions for improvement.
Did I mention beer after? http://www.steamworks.com/thirsty.htm

| Or perhaps it just could not handle the crap you pasted into it? ;) Looks fine now, with barely any editing work needed.... |

Last call for this workshop, it's this sunday. I'm really excited about this one, it's pretty much the rapier workshop I've been dreaming of running for years. If you can at all squeeze it in this sunday, you'll be very, very glad you did...or else you will be really jealous hearing what everyone else got out of it. |
