Just adding, if a blade isn't seated properly, you'll never be able to tighten the pommel down to the point where the hilt won't fall out of line with the blade or worse-case scenario, long term stripping of the threads which hold the pommel on due to over-tightening to compensate for the loose fit! This is the voice of experience! Don't do what I did back in the day and strip the threads! 
As I remember, a Hanwei blade tang at it's widest is about 1/2" by just under 1/4;" for comparison, I believe the average foil and epee have 1/4" square tangs. |
