I was having a conversation with someone the other day about rapier, students, white scarves, etc., and this person said something that started me to wondering about people's perceptions and expectations within the rapier community.
I'm just curious what the rapier community's belief as a whole is regarding cadets. Do you believe that every person who becomes a cadet will (or if you feel as much, should) inevitably become a white scarf?
Keep in mind, this is not an assessment of any group or individual anywhere. I'm just wondering what the community's belief is. |

Tora, et al,
Personally, I don't believe that each and every cadet will make their red white. As well, I don't believe that each cadet will inevitably become an OWS member.
In many cases, the relationship is a means to an end. In other cases, the relationship is more important than any color of scarf. IMHO, it's situational and it is up to the people inside the relationship to determine their journey - if it happens that there is a white scarf in there, so be it. But then again, I am generally relationship versus task focused, so it will be interesting to see what others have to say!!
Regards, Gemma~

Greetings,
While I am not in An Tir, there does seem to be the thought in quite a few kingdoms that red doesn’t necessarily become white.
Here is a link to a discussion from an Artemisian list; it follows a similar thought process. http://www.artemisiamilitaris.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=861
The other question is if there have been many in your kingdom who became White Scarves who were not cadets first.
Yes, I have talked to at least one White Scarf who believed that fighter becoming a cadet greatly increased the probability for becoming a White Scarf; however, this view doesn’t seem to be the prevailing point of view.
I hope this helps!
