Good day all! I have noticed that the Hanwei Practical Cup Hilt SH2261 is in the current draft as an approved simulator (YAY!). However the Society Blade list does not list this as an approved blade. Has it only been approved in the last month or so, and not made the last update? Or have we made an error in our list? Just curious, Christian

The Society list of approved blades does not mention the Item Numbers. All it states is that the Hanwei Practical Rapier is approved. I added the part numbers to hopefully make this a bit easier for people.

Please bare with me, but I need to make sure that I cover my butt here. The Society list does not list the Practical Cup Hilt, nor the Hanwei Schlager. I think Don Alvarro has one of these new cup hilts, and stated "The new Hanwei "practical" cup hilt rapier is beautiful, and the same price as the other rapiers in the line. It features a new blade which really addresses all the issues with the previous Hanwei practical blades. It's thicker, stiffer, and looks more like a real blade. Could you follow up on this discrepancy please? As our shire begins to deal with the elimination of fiberglass, I would like to feel like I am on solid ground when I go to council to make my pitch. Judging from the "classifieds" post this is now allowed? So I can use my new cup hilt at SCA tourneys, even though it's a total chunk of rebar? Sweet. Cuz, man, does it ever manhandle other swords.

You mean the blades can't be swapped? Fun and hopefully they can get it approved. From the pictures I've seen, they are purdy for a cup hilted sword.

A cup hilt is always a bad idea for a newbie. It teachs defense with the guard, not the forte, and leads to truly bad technique. Two things here: Yes, the Cup Hilt Rapier is apparently "approved" at the society level, according to conversations on the Kingdom Rapier Marshals list. HOWEVER, there are three different practice rapier blades from Hanwei now. Until I can get this clarified at Society level, the only Hanwei approved for use in An Tir at this time is the "standard" swept hilt practical hanwei (SH1098 and SH1099)
